The following is a news release from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control.
Lakewood, CO- The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) has sent one of its two Multi Mission Aircraft (MMA) to assist with multiple active wildfires burning throughout the State of Texas.
An MMA departed for Abilene, Texas on March 18, 2022 to support a request from the Texas A&M Forest Service. The aircraft’s primary mission is to detect new fires, gather perimeters and other data on existing fires, and aid Incident Command personnel in making sound, tactical decisions, improving the safety and efficiency of the response. Recent snow storms have limited wildfire potential across much of Colorado, allowing DFPC to support partner States who have supported Colorado in the past.
“This year has the potential to be a challenging fire season,” said DFPC Director Mike Morgan. “DFPC is honored to support our fire partners in Texas during their time of need.”
The second MMA will remain in Colorado to meet any in-state needs. Learn more about DFPCs Multi Mission Program at www.dfpc.colorado.gov/MMA
