(The following is a news release from Otero County)
Otero County is proud to announce the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Detention Center and Administration Building. The celebration will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at 222 E. 2nd Street, La Junta, CO 81050.
This event marks a significant milestone for the county and reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety, modernizing infrastructure, and providing efficient services to the community. Local officials, project partners, and community members are invited to attend this special occasion.
“We are excited to open a facility that not only strengthens our county’s capabilities but also represents a new chapter in our service to the people of Otero County,” said Sheriff Shawn Mobley.

The 4,555-square-foot Administration Building features modern staff offices, evidence storage, an interview room, and confidential areas for public interactions. Adjacent to it, the 13,580-square-foot Detention Center includes an elevated booking counter, separate juvenile holding, a variety of cells and housing units accommodating up to 66 inmates—double the capacity of the previous facility—and incorporates video visitation technology.
The new facility was made possible thanks to the collaboration and support of Nunn Construction, RJA-Architecture, and numerous other partners.
