(La Junta, CO) -- Otero County Sheriff Shawn Mobley has been with this project a long time, and it's about to wrap up. Mobley told a group of community members at the La Junta Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting that they have a goal to have incarcerated persons moved into the new facility by the end of April.

Mobley said staff are already settling into the Administration Building and have been for a couple of months now. He said the jail staff should be able to start moving into the building in the next couple of weeks. Training will be taking place on the new camera systems, and everything else that needs attention.

Sheriff Mobley said the center will be able to house 60-66 inmates. "That's twice the capacity we had before, much safer for staff, much safer for those who are incarcerated as well."

There will be some positions to fill so the Sheriff's office will be doing a hiring drive, they have some positions on the detention side.
