A man facing charges of attempted murder of a Rocky Ford Police officer will have to wait until next month for his pre-trial conference.

Twenty-two year old Adam Apodaca was in district court in Judge Samuel Vigil's courtroom in Otero County Thursday with his attorney, Alex Egri of the public defender's office.

Thursday's pre-trial conference was intended to share information between all parties involved. The judge, District Attorney's office and Defense Attorney talk about the details of the case before the trial. This is when they might resolve any outstanding issues and maybe negotiate plea bargains. However, Jason Bachlet of the District Attorney's office stated the reason it would be now scheduled later was a missing piece of "Discovery."

Discovery in legal terms is when both sides exchange information and evidence, this can include planned witness testimony. The reason for it is to prevent surprises where one side isn't aware of the other's evidence before the trial begins.

Apodaca is now set to return to court on March 5th at 8:30 for the pre-trial conference.

Apodaca was arrested by Rocky Ford Police on December 24th on charges of False Imprisonment, Harassment and Child Abuse pertaining to domestic violence according to a news release from the Rocky Ford Police Department. The news release also stated, "Adam violently attacked the officer who was later transported to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. The officer was diagnosed with a skull fracture and severe facial injuries."

The officer is identified as Mark Montano who has been with the Rocky Ford Police Department since January 2024.
