(Las Animas, CO) -- Charles Gregory Champney has a court date for Wednesday June 22 at 1:30 on a return filling of charges.
Champney turned himself into the Bent County Sheriff's office in May after a warrant was written for his arrest in connection with the Fort Lyon fire that started April 12, 2022.
Champney is the code enforcement officer for the city of Las Animas and has been on paid administrative leave following the arrest. Las Animas Mayor Scott Peterson wrote in a recent letter an explanation of the actions of council following an executive session where Champney's employment and status were discussed. The letter is posted below.
