(the following is a news release sent to CNYW, from the La Junta Chamber of Commerce)

On Saturday, March 8th, the La Junta Chamber of Commerce will host a free community leadership development workshop at Otero College Student Center, 2001 San Juan Avenue, La Junta, open to all youth and community members.  Registration is suggested to participate.

The free workshop is being facilitated by the School of Statesmanship, Stewardship, and Service (SOSSAS), and the day will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.  Lunch will be on your own.

SOSSAS Co-Founders Mike Butler, Dr. Carol Engel-Enright, Ph.D., and Stephanie Rossi, a retired public-school educator, will be presenting breakout sessions on a variety of topics addressing Attributes and Qualities of Statesmanship; Civic Engagement and Creating a Sense of Ownership in the Community; Civil Discourse; and Stewardship Models vs. Traditional Leadership Models, as well as many other leadership topics.

SOSSAS is a non-profit organization founded by engaged citizens in Longmont, Colorado.  They collaborated on creating new courses that create social capital and utilize design thinking.  Mike Butler says, “…the possibility of seeing community through the lens of goodness, identifying what is working well, and expanding the goodness to create solutions with engaged residents who are committed, accountable and take action can create a future we all want to live in.”

To register for the free workshop, please email carol@sossas.  If there are questions about the workshop, please contact Evette at the La Junta Chamber of Commerce at 719.384.7411.
