The tournament starts with a banquet, which was disco-themed this year.  There’s a meal, drinks, music, raffles, and fun.  Golfer Scottie Monarco says it’s a family affair, as many of his family are playing with him.

“I have a lot of family that has and still supports this golf tournament from all over the spectrum as family ties can go, uncles, cousins, in-laws, you name it. We strive as a golf committee to not only make this tournament great for those who participate but also to get as many donations as possible so we can give back to the communities that we serve. This tournament is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, golf tournaments in Southern Colorado, and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Southeast Colorado Power Association and SECOM sponsor the SECPA/SECOM Charity Golf Classic, and numerous other sponsors make the annual event possible by sponsoring holes on the courses.  SECOM Chief Operations Officer Scott Monarco says he’s grateful to the community and the golfers who made this happen.

“The Golf Committee would like to thank all this year’s participants for a successful golf tournament.  I know that all the charities we donate to really appreciate you as well.  Thank you again; see you all next year.”

Play occurs on two Southeast Colorado courses: the Rocky Ford Country Club and the La Junta Golf Club. The tournament's money is returned to charitable organizations within the community.
