Otero County Commissioner Tim Knabenshue put pen to paper to write a county ballot question that essentially could limit his time in office should voters say yes this November.
Knabenshue authored the question on the ballot that appears as follows:
Otero County Ballot Question 1A
Shall the term limits for the County Commissioners of
Otero County, Colorado be limited to no more than three
consecutive terms, this limitation being applicable for
terms of office beginning on or after January 1, 2025?
A yes vote would mean the term limits would go into effect going forward. A no vote would mean that a county commissioner would not be limited to how many years they would be able to serve.
"I believe that the government is of the people, by the people and for the people, We are a Constitutional Republic . Citizens should have a say." Knabenshue explained.
Otero County Commissioners currently serve four year terms. Should the ballot question be approved it would mean that a candidate would be able to term up to three terms or 12 years.
