(Las Animas, CO) -- It's time to decide on what to do about Ft. Lyon. Bent County Commissioner Jean Sykes tells us the contract renewal is on the agenda for Thursday, September 8th at 9am.
County Commissioners will decide whether Bent County will continue to provide financial support to Ft. Lyon or release it back to the Department of Local Affairs.
Sykes adds the meeting, as always, will be open to the public. She said they left the meeting open with time for public comments, should anyone have any to make on the agenda item.
The Ft. Lyon facility, located east of Las Animas, was formerly a prison and also a VA Hospital until it closed. The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless which provides transitional housing and recovery programs has been at the campus since then. The contract Bent County has with them is renewed every year and Bent County is responsible for the management of the property.
The public is invited to share comments with the commissioners at this meeting, September 8th, Thursday at 9am in the basement of the Bent County Courthouse in the Commissioners meeting room.
