(La Junta, ) -- La Junta Superintendent Dr. Reece Blincoe told a group of community members this week, just how important being in class is to student success.

Blincoe mentioned it following a presentation the district made to the Colorado State Board of Education recently.

The improvement plan called for curriculum and instruction and just how they operate the schools on a regular basis.

Much of the plan focused on restructuring the culture within the community surrounding great attendance. That includes encouraging parents to send kids to school.

"You know we have a limited number of school days, we have 144 school days and we need kids every single day," Blincoe reiterated.

So, we're going to work on the culture of coming to school and working hard on top of all of the improvements that we'll be doing in front of the school.

Blincoe expressed gratitude to the community for their help supporting the improvement plan. Ninety-one community members sent letters of support were sent to the state board. The board couldn't recall a time when a community had backed a school so fervently.

Blincoe said the improvement plan presented to the State Board of Education will be on the district's website soon.
